Homeopathy Works

Homeopathy - the facts

  • Homeopathy works FAST in acute illnesses, slower in chronic illness.
  • Homeopathic medicine has been proven extremely effective in Epidemics such as cholera, typhoid, diptheria, yellow fever, polio and influenza and were used extensively in 19th century. http://www.whale.to/v/winston.html
  • Homeopathy is the 2nd most popular and widely used medicine in the world.
  • Homeopathic medicines have no toxic side-effects.
  • Homeopathic medicines are NON-ADDICTIVE.
  • In 200 years, there has never been a single homeopathic medicine recalled, unlike pharmaceutical medicines.
  • Every Patient is Unique so homeopathic medicines are individualised.
  • Homeopathic medicines are not tested on animals.
  • Homeopathic medicines work very well on animals and babies than on adults, proving this cannot be placebo effect.
  • Homeopathy is safe for women to take while pregnant and safe for old people.
Scientists agree that if and when homeopathy is accepted by the scientific community it will turn established science on its head.

Homeopathic Hospitals

  • There are 5 homeopathic hospitals in the UK. In London, Tunbridge Wells, Bristol, Liverpool and Glasgow. They cost the NHS under £10 million a year compared to the £100 billion for the total annual NHS budget for 2008!
  • At one of the earliest debates on the NHS Act of 1948 the Government pledged that homoeopathy would continue to be available on the NHS, as long as there were "patients wishing to receive it and doctors willing to provide it".
  •  There is a campaign by certain UK Professors to oust homeopathy completely from the NHS http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/article1827553.ece and in 2007 they organised a document on NHS stationery to be sent to all Primary Care Trusts telling managers not to refer patients to the homeopathic hospitals. http://dcscience.net/homeopathy_paper_for_nhs_commissioners.pdf
  • The chance of contracting MRSA or C. Difficile at a Homeopathic Hospital is extremely rare.
  • Unlike orthodox medicine, where the cost of side-effects of pharmaceutical medicines negligence claims can run into millions, one UK leading insurance company reported only ‘a couple' of claims against homeopaths in a ten year period! Hence insurance cover for homeopathy is cheap, reflecting low risk.

Scientific Studies.

  • In 2005 World Health Organisation brought out a draft report, which showed homeopathy was beneficial, causing Big Pharma to panic and the Lancet to bring out an editorial entitled ‘The End of Homeopathy'.
  • There have been many clinical trials that prove homeopathy works. In the past 24 years there have been more than 180 controlled, and 118 randomized, trials into homeopathy, which were analysed by four separate meta-analyses. In each case, the researchers concluded that the benefits of homeopathy went far beyond that which could be explained purely by the placebo effect.
  • The Bristol Homeopathic Hospital carried out a study published in November 2005 of 6500 patients receiving homeopathic treatment. There was an overall improvement in health of 70% of them. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bristol/4454856.stm
  • Homeopathy can never be properly tested through double blind randomised trials because each prescription is individualized, since every patient is unique. Therefore 10 people with arthritis, for example, may all need a different homeopathic medicine.

Homeopathic Practitioners

  • Homeopathic Practitioners train for 4 years in Anatomy and Physiology, as well as Pathology and Disease, Materia Medica, Homeopathic Philosophy and study of the Homeopathic Repertory.
  • Most homeopaths treat patients who have been referred to them by
word of mouth. Most patients seek out homeopathy because conventional treatment has not benefitted them or because it poses too great a risk of side-effects.
  • The homeopathic community has thousands, even millions, of
written case notes that demonstrate the positive benefits of their treatment. Some homeopaths have video proof of their patients before and after treatment.

Popularity of Homeopathy

  • The popularity of homeopathy has grown in the past 30 years, its revival entirely through word of mouth and estimated to be growing at more than 20% a year the world over!
  • Hundreds of famous people throughout the past 200 years have enjoyed the benefits of homeopathic medicine. www.homeopathicrevolution.com
The aristocratic patronage of homeopathy in the UK extended well into the 1940's and beyond as can be easily demonstrated. In the Homeopathic Medical Directories there are lists of patrons of the dispensaries and hospitals. They read like an extract from Burke's or Debrett's.
  • The Royal Families of Europe use homeopathic medicine and Queen Elizabeth II of England never travels anywhere without her homeopathic vials of medicine.

March 2009: Complementary and Alternative Therapies Backed for NHS Funding

A major Government-funded study, carried out in Northern Ireland and commissiond by the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, found there would be a range of benefits to patients in providing access to complementary and alternative medicine, and that the treatments could even save the health service money.
Treatments administered after referral from local GPs included acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropractic, osteopathy, reflexology and aromatherapy.
The Health Minister in Northern Ireland has made the independent evaluation report available to download on the Department's website. As well as an extensive report with detailed responses from patients, GPs and practitioners, using a validated audit tool, focus groups and surveys, the report has made recommendations about the way forward. www.dhsspsni.gov.uk/index/hss/complementary-alternative-medicine.htm

The Results
Following the pilot, 80% of patients reported an improvement in their symptoms, 64% took less time off work and 55% reduced their use of painkillers.
In the pilot, 713 patients with a range of ages and demographic backgrounds and either physical or mental health conditions were referred to various complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies via nine GP practices in Belfast and Londonderry.

Homeopathy received the highest percentage of reported improvements : In relation to treatment programme, patients who availed of chiropractic and osteopathy treatments (56%) were less likely to record an improvement in their level of wellbeing, compared with patients availing of acupuncture (77%) and homeopathic treatments (79%) (see page 31 of the report).

Health improvement

  • 81% of patients reported an improvement in their physical health
  • 79% reported an improvement in their mental health
  • 84% of patients linked an improvement in their health and wellbeing directly to their CAM treatment
  • In 65% of patient cases, GPs documented a health improvement, correlating closely to patient-reported improvements
  • 94% of patients said they would recommend CAM to another patient with their condition
  • 87% of patient indicated a desire to continue with their CAM treatment

Painkillers and medication

  • Half of GPs reported prescribing less medication and all reported that patients had indicated to them that they needed less
  • 62% of patients reported suffering from less pain
  • 55% reported using less painkillers following treatment
  • Patients using medication reduced from 75% before treatment to 61% after treatment
  • 44% of those taking medication before treatment had reduced their use afterwards

Health service and social benefits

  • 24% of patients who used health services prior to treatment (i.e. primary and secondary care, accident and emergency) reported using the services less after treatment
  • 65% of GPs reported seeing the patient less following the CAM referral
  • Half of GPs said the scheme had reduced their workload and 17% reported a financial saving for their practice
  • Half of GPs said their patients were using secondary care services less

Despite initial scepticism, the GPs involved were almost unanimously in favour after seeing tangible results. In 99% of patient cases GPs said they would refer the patient, or a different patient, to the scheme again and in 98% of cases GPs said they would recommend the service to other GPs. However, they also called for more information to help build their understanding of CAM therapies.

HOMEOPATHY WORKS.....More facts

Even More Proof Homeopathy Works:

A new study, just published in the International Journal of Oncology, reveals that homeopathic remedies have a beneficial effect on breast cancer cells.

The study, which was done in Houston Texas, shows that certain homeopathic remedies have preferentially elevated cytotoxic (killing) effects on breast cancer cells - compared with cells derived from normal breast epithelium.

The team of researchers commented that the homeopathic remedies appeared to have similar activity to the activity of paclitaxel (Taxol), the most commonly used chemotherapeutic drug for breast cancer, without the toxic effect on the normal cells.

The experiments were conducted in triplicate and repeated at least twice for each remedy. The homeopathic medicines tested included: Carcinosin, 30C; Conium maculatum, 3C; Phytolacca decandra, 200C and Thuja occidentalis, 30C. The most effective remedies were found to be Carcinosin and Phytolacca.

The researchers concluded, "the ultra-diluted natural homeopathic remedies investigated in this study offer the promise of being effective preventive and/or therapeutic agents for breast cancer and worthy of further study."

This is the first scientific study that investigated the effect of homeopathic remedies on breast cancer cells.

Dana Ullman, one of the best known writers on homeopathy stated: "This study raises the exciting possibility of a window of therapeutic opportunity for preferentially eliminating breast cancer cells with minimal damage to the surrounding normal mammary tissue by using homeopathic remedies".
